Survey: Strong Job Market for Tampa Bay

TAMPA (970 WFLA) --  A new survey projects hiring by many Tampa Bay Area businesses during the first quarter of 2013.

Temporary staffing firm Manpower says 21 percent of Bay area employers plan to add workers. Six percent are looking at cutbacks, while 70 percent plan to stick with what they have. The rest aren’t sure.

Manpower spokesperson Judy Leppla says that 15 percentage point gap between hiring and firing, called the Net Employment Index, matches the current quarter and is well ahead of this time a year ago, when hiring led by just five percentage points.

Construction and manufacturing are two of the sectors where job prospects appear best around here.

Statewide, Florida’s job market is expected to be among the strongest in the nation, according to Manpower. 19 percent of employers plan to add to their payrolls, while only 4 percent plan cutbacks.
